Body Piercing Aftercare

The aftercare phase of your body piercing experience is very important in determining the ultimate enjoyment of your piercing.  Your piercing should be cared for on a daily basis during the healing period.

At Body Creations we tell you how to care for your body piercing both verbally or in writing.  Bath or shower as usual and wash the pierced area – the external area – with a mild fragrance-free liquid soap.  Finish with a complete rinse of the area with clear, running water.  After bathing or showering is a great time to apply your Emu Oil.  Remember Emu Oil is highly concentrated and takes very little for each application.

It is very important to remember not to touch your unhealed piercing with dirty hands.  Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your unhealed piercing.  Failure to do so can result in infection.  If there is any crusty matter around your piercing, remove it with a cotton swab and warm water.  Do not remove the crusty matter dry because it can cause more injury to your piercing.  In other words, do not use your fingernails to remove any dried matter around your piercing.  The best time to remove any dried matter around your piercing is during bathing and showering or immediately after when the crust is liquified and can be easily removed.

Carefully massage a small drop of Emu Oil on the tissue around the piercing with a clean finger or Q-Tip.  It is not necessary to rotate the jewelry back and forth when using Emu Oil.  Moving the jewelry back and forth through the piercing increases your chances of infecting the piercing with bacteria that may be located on the jewelry.  Apply Emu Oil Twice a Day.

When healing a body piercing, patience is a real virtue.  Each person is unique and healing times can and probably will vary.  Regardless of the stated healing time for your piercing, if the piercing is tender or still secreting, continue your aftercare regimen even if it is after the usual healing time.
